It is time that America wakes up from its dream and sees the alarming rate of young casualties who are addicted and suffering from the psychiatric drugs that are supposed to be helping them. This issue has been reported as threatening the achievements of modern medicine by the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has classified it as an epidemic. These drugs are poisons which are killing more people than car accidents every year. The pharmaceutical companies should be held accountable, psychiatrists and other doctors need to be monitored more carefully, and alternative approaches must be encouraged. Parents should be better educated and the young people should be better engaged and understood. It is time to begin to radically rethink our approach to diagnosing and dealing with mental health issues and as Matthew Maclure writes to stop simply trying to prescribe doses of the American Dream.
